About Bull Shoals Lake Area
Bull Shoals Lake is a water sports paradise. Almost 1,000 miles of
pristine shoreline is open to visitors from all over the nation who come to fish, scuba
dive, houseboat, water ski, wake board, camp, and relax. Bull Shoals Lake water is very
clean and clear. Swimming is enjoyable from mid May until late September. Fishing on Bull
Shoals Lake is excellent all year with peak action in March, April, and May.
Marinas
on Bull Shoals Lake have boats and motors for rent, supplies for sale, and fishing
guides
for hire. The Corps of Engineers and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission provides
launching areas and ramps for those who bring their own boats. Water sports such as
swimming and skiing are popular on Bull Shoals Lake, as is cruising the hundreds of miles
of lake arms and coves. Scuba divers come to Bull Shoals from many states to enjoy their
sport in the clear, blue water. Spearfishing is enjoyed year-round.
While fishing and water sports are the main draw to Bull Shoals Lake area,
thousands of visitors come to just plain relax. They enjoy staying at a resort where they
rent a boat then go find a quiet spot on the lake and picnic in the boat. Surrounded by

At
the base of Bull Shoals Dam is one of the best trophy trout fisheries in the world, the

and wade fishing are all 5 minutes from the City of Bull Shoals and Bull Shoals Lake. Many

full service marinas offer a wide range of recreation equipment. Scuba gear, several types
of boats, slip rentals, fishing guide services, tubes, wakeboards, and water skis are
available to buy or rent. Marinas also offer boat and motor repairs and fuel sales. Some
marinas have camp grounds and all have public boat launch ramps. Resorts
also rent a wide range of boats as well as tubes and water skis.

Bull Shoals area has some of the best restaurants in north-central Arkansas. If you wish
to prepare your meals in one of the Bull Shoals Lake resorts which have kitchen cabins,
there are grocery stores and a Walmart in the town of Mountain Home 20 minutes to the
east, and 10 minutes to the west in the town of Flippin. The town of Bull Shoals also has
a large grocery store. No matter where you stay on the lower section of Bull Shoals Lake,
good food is a short drive away. Several churches, medical centers, banks with drive-up
ATMs, pharmacies, and retail shops are common throughout the lower Bull Shoals Lake area.

Almost all trout fishing and lake
fishing guides work equally as well with beginners, men, women, and children. If you have
never trout fished let your guide know. They'll do all the work for you. They'll bait
hooks, rig lines and lures, cast, net the fish, and remove trout from your hook. All you
need do is have a good time! If wish to keep some fish they'll also clean, fillet, and bag
your catch. Most resorts and lodging facilities have freezers for your day's catch. The
same is true of lake fishing guides who specialize in catching bass and walleye.

All of the resorts and guide services in the
Bull Shoals Lake area are privately owned Mom & Pop operations. There are no large
resorts or large hotels in the area. In almost all cases you'll be communicating with the
owners. Most provide extremely good personal service. They have a strong passion for
helping people have a great vacation. They keep their cabins clean, their boats well
equipped, and in good repair. However, from time to time, there are a very few who don't
quite measure up to this standard. To avoid a bad experience ask lodging hosts and guides
about how clean they keep their cabins, boats, and equipment. Don't hesitate to ask
questions. The good ones (and there are very few rouges) appreciate your concerns and they
take great pride in explaining how they provide top service.
Where To Get The Best Trip Advice
If you are planning a trip to the Bull Shoals
Lake area first talk to a few resort owners, marina operators, and fishing guides. They
are the best information sources for fishing, lodging, meals, and anything else you'll
need. They are in the full time business of helping their guests plan exciting, safe, and

Some resorts may also offer RV spots and/or camping sites. The U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers maintains a beautiful RV and camping facility near Lakeview, Arkansas.
